About Us

Have you ever had what you wanted without even realizing it? That was me 19 years ago. In high school and college, I worked with custom builders to finance my college education. What I didn’t realize at the time was that what I thought was a means to an end, would actually become my life’s passion.

Upon graduating from UNC - Chapel Hill, I left building for a career in Restaurant Management. For almost two years, I committed myself to this career. There was something missing. I consistently felt unsatisfied with my accomplishments. After considerable soul searching, I realized that I missed building homes; the experience of changing undisturbed dirt into a home where people experience their lives.

From this point forward, I took a very deliberate path; each step taking me closer to my goal of owning my own home building company. A company where I could put my name on the product knowing with confidence that I will be proud each time I see a Sutton Home complete and a family excited to have it as their home.

My first step was to find an effective learning and growing environment. I searched for the right position within a small business where I could learn as much as possible. I found a small builder in Cary, NC where I became the superintendent. I studied and received my General Contractor’s license while working, watching, questioning, and discovering what it takes to be a successful builder.

Next, I took a risk and built two homes on my own. I loved every minute. What confirmed for me that I was on the right path was when I realized that the satisfaction I received from selling a home was equally matched by seeing the new homeowners light up when they discovered the home they were searching for…a Sutton Home.

With the financial support of my childhood friend, college roommate and now business partner, I was able to form Sutton Homes, LLC. The ability to support my family of five, while doing work that I’m passionate about is a rare gift. I love being able to get up each day and do what I enjoy while knowing that I am providing a place where people can live each day creating their own life dreams and watching their families grow, love, laugh, and experience life.
